SET DESIGN

Questo libro è la sintesi di un lungo lavoro di ricerca svolto all’interno dei corsi di scenografia tenuti nella Scuola di architettura e società del Politecnico di Milano dal 2001 ad oggi. Durante gli anni il corso ha anche cambiato nome, passando da scenografia a scenografia e spazi della rappresentazione, per esprimere meglio la nuova centralità di questa disciplina all’interno di una realtà complessa che comprende l’architettura e la città, i processi di reversibilità, di adeguamento, e spesso anche di spettacolarizzazione. Ogni anno il corso universitario di scenografia e spazi della rappresentazione è pensato come un vero e proprio laboratorio di ricerca, che come tale deve dare risultati concreti. E i risultati sono sempre mostre, performance, concerti, spettacoli, libri o convegni. In questa raccolta vogliamo porre l’attenzione sugli spettacoli, che meglio degli altri lavori esprimono la nostra idea di didattica unita alla ricerca e i tre saggi iniziali, scritti da chi ha dato in tutti questi anni i maggiori contributi al grande lavoro svolto, proprio di questo parlano. Tutte le immagini scelte sono di scenografie realizzate in teatro o negli spazi della scuola.

 This book is the summary of a long program of research carried out within the courses of set design held at the School of architecture and society of Milan Polytechnic from 2001 to the present day. Over the years the course has changed its name, passing from set design to set design and spaces of performance, to better convey the new centrality of this discipline in a complex situation that comprises architecture and the city, the processes of reversibility, adjustment and often spectacularization too. Every year the university course of set design and spaces of performance is approached as a genuine research laboratory, and one that as such has to produce concrete results. And the results are always exhibitions, concerts, performances, books or conferences. In this collection we want to focus on the performances, which express better than the other works our idea of teaching combined with research and the three initial essays, written by the people who in all these years have made the greatest contributions to the great work done, speak precisely of this. All the pictures selected are of sets created in the school’s theater or other spaces.
